  • Historical Note: Camp Douglas was a federal prisoner of war camp near Chicago. After the surrender at Fort Donelson, many captured Confederate soldiers were sent to Camp Douglas. Although poor conditions in the camp contributed to the deaths of more than six thousand prisoners by war's end, this entertainment program suggests that some spirited soldiers engaged in activities intended to bolster morale at the camp.
